Inventory

In my recovery lifestyle the self-inventory has become a necessity if I am to gain a deeper understanding of myself and God’s will for my life.

I started with my first inventory back in 1992 and I believed then that I was going to do the one and be done.

As it turns out we humans continue to change, and we are allowed to learn new lessons every year. When I did not complete an inventory, I would continue to do the same behaviors even when I knew those behaviors were no longer any good use for me.

I needed to complete a self-inventory regularly in order to be honest with myself and those around me.

I do have the tools to complete and daily inventory and when I find I have acted or reacted in a way which does not serve my greatest good then I get to make amends for my behaviors.

A helpful reminder, an inventory takes stock of what is no longer useful and those things that are for our greatest good.

I will admit, even so many years later I have not always done this inventory thing, and I will tell you I have learned many a difficult lesson from those choices.

Today I choose to maintain a practice of daily inventories and when I feel that twinge inside which lets me know I need to make amends, I am humbled and grateful for the opportunity to grow.

May each of you allow yourself the gift of spiritual growth which comes from an inventory.

You are Love and Loved.
